The first year of becoming a woodworker/joiner
In the 1st year course (BGJ) one learns about the qualities, the processing and use of wood. Also the processing of sheet material is taught. One also gets to know which tools to use for different materials and tasks.
Following the theoretical lessons we build workpieces in the workshop. Those workpieces can be wooden tool-boxes, for example, or pieces made of plastic-laminated sheet goods.
It's also possible to use the college's workshop for private practice.
In the BGJ at the Eckener-College Flensburg in 2009/10 there are about 32 students in two classes.
After the BGJ the vocational training in the companies goes on to last another two years.
